Travelling with a baby

Travelling with a baby

Oct 4, 2016

So I wrote this blog a few nights back! I actually forgot I wrote it as I was probably delirious haha! But here’s goes! It’s currently 2.30am and I am extremely tired but so awake! I haven’t had the chance to get over jet lag or reverse my sleeping habits because my little one hasnt! He has finally gone to sleep but for how long I don’t know! The last few nights it’s been 4am wake ups and ready for the day! 😑 Anyway this blog isn’t about jet lag ( although I wish there was a magical cure ) it’s about travelling  with a baby! Before I left for Europe I googled so much on what to pack, what to expect and couldn’t really find a lot! I mean some things are pretty simple eg wipes, nappies, forumla etc but how much? And what’s some things I’ll find myself wishing I took! Firstly ! Don’t stress about water for your formula! ( if formula fed ) I looked up the airlines and they didn’t exactly have a clear answer on the rules about taking bottles of water so I just made up 10 bottles of boiled water and hoped for the best! As I got them all out at security they told me not to bother any water for babies is fine! Phew! I made sure I packed enough nappies, wipes, food and toys! We did get detoured and held up for an extra few hours on the flight and almost came unstuck with bottles! So I suggest packing a couple extra! Anyway we also booked the bassinet but to be completely honest we probably only used it once for 30 minutes! It’s pretty shallow and as max stands up now I couldn’t sleep knowing he was in there and could hop on out when he pleased! So for me next time I wouldn’t stress about getting one! If your baby is as fussy as Max and has never really liked a pram, car seat, bouncer etc I highly recommend back packs for the baby so sit! He absolutely loved it and it made walking around so much easier! But we also made sure...

Active April

Active April

Apr 1, 2016

The first of April marks the beginning of Premiers Active April campaign.  I’m delighted to be on board as an ambassador and look forward to sharing my Active April. Active April is an initiative run by the Victorian Government to encourage people to do 30 minutes of activity a day during April, this can Include all kinds of exercise, such as going for a swim, riding your bike or even getting out and doing some gardening! I was shocked to read that 80% of kids don’t exercise enough. As an athlete I have a great coach and goals I aim to achieve, we have a plan to stick to, though I will admit I have days that I just don’t want to train. This is even more obvious now as a new mum.  I’ve used every excuse under the sun to not exercise, so by setting this challenge its really helping me get off my bum and also find new ways of making up that 30 minutes! For more info visit www.activeapril.vic.gov.au ( theres lots of freebies 🙂 ) Whilst where on the topic of fitness I thought I would also share some of the things that help me keep fit and refuelled. Aussie Bodies has been a great partner of mine for sometime now and I honestly wouldnt be able to get through some days/ training sessions without them! I also get a lot of people ask me about what proteins I take, or as an athlete what snacks I like.. well here you go! I’ll start with protein. I used to use protein only once I had done a gym session but now I take it every morning regardless of this! My favourite protein to use is ” Perfect Protein” I put a scoop in my oats along with my fruit and milk! I also use the same protein in a shake after my gym workouts for muscle recovery. ( I like to use coconut water and ice! ) For my snacks! I used to make my own protein snacks, which were time consuming and messy, and now with a 12 week old I’m lucky to even have a shower haha… but seriously, my go...

Baby Max William Miller

Baby Max William Miller

Feb 8, 2016

Max William Miller It’s strange how things turn out, I thought I’d have my first ‘baby’ blog done and dusted by now but I didn’t realise it would take me nearly 4 weeks to even find the time and energy to put something down. I have to admit I had no idea just how hard becoming a first time mum would be. Don’t get me wrong I knew it would be a challenge but I didn’t realise the emotional rollercoaster it would send me on, and not just me but my partner Ryan as well. Appreciating all women have their own birth story, some good and others not so. Everyone is different, for me labour started at 7pm on Sunday the 3rd of January. My waters broke at home so I was off to the hospital quicker than I thought, only nearly to be sent home just as quick. Though after a couple test the babies heart rate wasn’t doing as they would like I was admitted (something I was glad to do). In the end he was fine! It was a long night of contractions that ended in finding out my little man was posterior. Anyone who has had a posterior baby will know it comes with pain. The pain in my lower back and tailbone was almost unbearable and I was lucky enough to still have time for an epidural, BEST THING EVER! Max was born at 1.17pm on Monday the 4th of January healthy, happy and cute weighing in at 2.8kg. In an instant I fell in love, and in an instant my world changed, for the better. 24 hours later and we were all off home! So excited but with absolutely no idea what we were doing. The next few days we were all trying to find our way, no sleep, learning to change nappies, examining his poo and wee making sure it was all normal! Bailey, our dog loved him at first site! For me the lack of sleep wasn’t the hard part, the hardest part was the worry. I would watch him sleep, watch his breathing, constantly ask Ryan if the noises he was making were normal and...

Pregnancy the Home Stretch

Pregnancy the Home Stretch

Dec 21, 2015

Pregnancy the Home Stretch I never thought this time would come! 38 weeks! When you’re in the first and even second trimester you always feel like you’re never going to get there and you spend a lot of time wishing your bump would grow so you could see that you were pregnant! But I can safely say I hope these next two weeks fly! I can also safely say I’ve had enough! I have been very lucky with my pregnancy so there is nothing I can really complain about, but these last couple of weeks I have found myself starting to complain! ( something I swore I would never do! ) While a lot of people tell me they love the feeling of being pregnant, and the kicking, etc I have to be honest and say I don’t! I love knowing I am growing a mini us in there and that lots of movement means he is strong and healthy… but I can’t wait to have my body back, I can’t wait to sleep on my stomach and I can’t wait to get one solid hour of sleep! Whist I’m being honest I’d like to admit that I don’t think I have been the easiest person to live with lately either! I wouldn’t say I am the devil… but I would say that my beautiful partner puts up with a lot! I’m definitely not the only one who’s been missing out on sleep! I couldn’t do this without my partner, and knowing he is going to be right by my side through labour makes me feel as good as I can about what’s to come! If you asked me a month ago about how I was feeling about labour I would of said Sh*t  scared! If you ask me now my answer would be more excited than scared! Of course I’m nervous,… I realise he’s gotta come out one way or another and I honestly can’t wait! I’ve googled and read a lot these past couple of months and two things that have stuck out at me are: * One – a lot of people will tell you what you should do, what they...
